I agree with you totally. I had no idea how closely my daughter watches me with my phone. She loves it, and I used to give it to her to play ("hewooooo"). But - she has learned that to make it do fun things, you hit the hang-up button and then the center key. I guess she's seen me pick up the phone and do this (which unlocks the touchscreen). Like you, I'm pretty technical. I can set up and configure Domino servers, Blackberry servers, etc and I had a Blackberry for 2 years. I recently bought a cheap basic phone, and after hours of searching the menus, still could not work out how to turn off the really annoying keypad sounds. It has a 'cute' feature where it shows an old fashioned nib pen drawing your numbers on parchment, accompanied by an extremely irritating scratching sound. After searching the forums I found you can't turn it off. You can change the theme, or turn the keypad sounds right down to zero. After turning the sound down I put the phone down and went off to do some chores. I came back 5 minted later to find my 4 y.o. Happily 'scratching' numbers. 'Mummy - you turned off the scratchy sound. So I turned it back on' (angelic smile). He'd worked out how to do it in under a minute. Give it to you kids – seriously.
